Cat Wu, the product manager who ran Claude Code at Anthropic, is joining OpenAI. Business Insider reported the hire on 5 November 2026 after Wu announced it on X. OpenAI confirmed it, and Anthropic declined to comment.

Wu takes over product management on OpenAI’s core products team, working with Nick Turley on enterprise and Ashley Alexander on consumer. An OpenAI representative said she will report to Tibo Sottiaux. She wrote that “we’ll build agents that have your back and your team’s, and keep you in control.”

Her exit from Anthropic came shortly before its planned IPO. On X she said she had “no idea” if departing would free her to sell stock ahead of colleagues who stayed, and that it “wasn’t a factor for me.”

OpenAI needs the help where she is strongest. Codex, its answer to Claude Code, has driven growth, and Anthropic pulled ahead of OpenAI with business customers in the months before. Business Insider reads the hire as a possible boost for Codex adoption.

Companies weighing Codex against Claude Code should expect the product gap between them to narrow over the next ninety days, since OpenAI just hired the person who built its rival’s.
